something new

One day when on a walk at our local greenway (my method of forest bathing), I noticed a creeping vine making its way out of the overgrowth among the trees. It was reaching, growing and looked so happy.
It brought me back to my grandparents' home on Chickamauga Lake where we spent our childhood summers. There was a small beach area, a dock for the boats and fishing, and a large porch where we slept. I can feel the cool, lush green vines covering the ground underfoot, swinging in the hammock and watching the sun dappled through the canopy of trees.
For me the vines were a memory and something new growing. They bridged my past and my present. And this feeling didn't leave me the whole time I painted this canvas. In my studio notes I wrote, "I can see it emerging, a new thing, life, hope. This painting is gripping my heart."
For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? -Isaiah 43:19
