the emerging collection

the emerging collection

I don't want to be a beginner.

I want to skip the discomfort of starting a new journey. I've struggled to find the right words to describe my art, explaining my reasons for it, or what I hope you will gain from it.

"Sometimes doing it wrong is the only way to get it right." I came across this quote in a book completely unrelated to art or business. In other words, you can't skip the process. It comes with the territory.

When I first began painting this collection, I kept thinking about this word "emerging". I felt as though I was emerging as an artist, and it was spring and I could see a great number of plants reaching up to find their place in the world.

One definition of Emergence is "penetration of the soil surface by a newly germinated plant". It also means life coming forth out of obscurity, an unfolding, a reaching up, arising, becoming known.

We all want to find our place in the world, its human nature. I have to push through the humus of life in order to rise up to the calling on my life to create. I have to be a beginner, start small and make mistakes. It's the only way to move forward.

That is what my first original painting collection is exploring; from growing pains to new life and remembering our beautiful life in the process. I painted it over several months with lots of life happening in between. I hope you will take some time to visit the Emerging collection and I hope that it speaks to you where you are.

If you're interested, there is also an Emerging playlist that I created to listen to while painting. You can find it here.
